Nitrous Oxide Machine — Greenville, NC — Natalie B. McCarthy, DDS, PA

What is nitrous oxide?

Nitrous oxide is the main form of sedation dentistry we offer. Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a gas that produces a relaxed, euphoric feeling. You will inhale the nitrous oxide, which is mixed with a high percentage of oxygen, through a nose mask during your dental treatment. You will remain awake and able to respond to any questions or instructions from our dentist, but you will feel more comfortable and at ease. Nitrous oxide is very safe, and the effects will wear off within just a few minutes after we end the gas flow.

What is oral conscious sedation?

In addition to nitrous oxide, we also provide oral sedation at our practice. Oral conscious sedation involves taking a tablet by mouth one hour before your appointment. We will need to get clearance from your medical history before prescribing oral sedation, and we will make sure that you are safe and comfortable throughout your treatment. You will also need a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment to ensure your safety, so please plan accordingly.
